These trees grow to 45-75 feet with a broadly arched, umbrella shaped crown. They are native throughout the Mediterranean region and grow fast. They make an excellent shade tree with a wide crown. The Italian Stone Pine adapts well to a dry climate and is a hardy, disease resistant tree. Of particular note, they do not seem to be susceptible to many of the Monterey Pine dieases currently plaguing California.

Needles have long, silvery-green tips. Older trees have a reddish to yellow-brown deep longitudinal fissures in the bark. They have light-yellow brown solitary cones.
